Sharjah
Sharjah Is one of the Seven Emirates of the UAE and the third largest after Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Located on the eastern Arabian coast, it is known for its strong cultural identity and dedication to preserving heritage. UNESCO named it the “Cultural Capital of the Arab World” for its leadership in promoting Arab arts and traditions.
The Al Qasimi family, the ruling dynasty of Sharjah, held significant regional influence—especially in the 19th century—when the emirate became an important naval and trade center in the Gulf and the Indian Ocean. Their leadership helped shape Sharjah’s social and commercial development before, and during the formation of the UAE.
Sharjah also has a long sporting legacy. It established some of the UAE’s earliest sports institutions, including Sharjah Sports & Cultural Club (founded 1966), which produced many distinguished athletes—among them ten players who represented the UAE in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
Today, Sharjah blends culture, heritage, modern attractions, and vibrant shopping, making it a distinctive destination for visitors and residents alike
